Donate TODAY! – Become a Partner for Health

As a Partner for Health, you'll be making a vital difference in the lives of children who need your help by providing the funds to pay for the sports and/or summer programs that many youth in our community enjoy. Our donors give $19 a month – about $.63 a day – while some give more and some give less. Whatever amount you choose, your dollars will give a child a chance to play and learn a sport and/or skill that they may not otherwise participate.

Donations of Stock or Appreciated Assets

Gifts of appreciated securities offer ways to maximize the value of your charitable giving.  If you have stock that you have owned for more than one year and it has appreciated since you purchased it, you can save on the capital gains tax you would owe from selling it first and then donating the money.  By donating the stock directly to the Heisey Youth Center, a 501 (c) (3) charitable organization, you may be entitled to an income tax deduction for the full current market value of your gift and pay no capital gains taxes.  Saves on Taxes!

Charitable Donations Through Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs) (Pension Protection Act)

The extension of the Pension Protection Act was signed into law on October 3, 2008, extending the IRA Charitable Rollover provision originally passed in 2006. This is good news for those age 70 ½ or older with individual retirement accounts, as it allows donors to make donations using IRA funds without tax complications.
This is especially helpful if you are required to receive minimum distributions from your IRA and you do not need the money for personal use. Although you cannot claim a charitable deduction for IRA gifts, you will not pay income tax on the amount in most cases.

Other requirements:
  • Must be age 70 ½  or older
  • Maximum total of all gifts from IRA is $100,000 per year
  • Funds must transfer directly from an IRA to one or more public charities
  • Excludes gifts to charitable trusts, donor advised funds and supporting organizations
  • Contact your IRA administrator or tax professional if you are considering a donation through your IRA.

Take Advantage of the Montana Tax Credit

Under current Montana tax laws, Montana taxpayers are eligible to make substantial donations to qualified endowments and receive significant tax benefits.  These tax benefits substantially lower the cost of charitable giving.  To qualify, individuals must use one of several planned donation methods, while business corporations, partnerships and LLCs can give outright donations which may qualify. The law permits a tax credit of 40% for individuals, and 20% for qualifying business contributions.  If you are thinking of taking advantage of any tax credit, now is the time to act!   Saves on Taxes!

Please contact your tax advisor and they can help answer questions on any of the above giving options and provide vaulable advice during this process.
